A Coat And A Harness Fight Each Other
Strap a harness over a coat and it slides, dragging the coat sideways within a block. Wear it underneath and it crushes the padding flat exactly where the dog needs it. Either way it is two things to fasten on a freezing morning with a dog that will not stand still. The Nordra sews the harness onto the jacket.
A quilted water-repellent shell over a polar fleece lining, a full-length zip along the back, and the webbing harness on the outside with reflective straps and two metal D-rings. One zip, one buckle, out the door. Seven sizes, chest 13.4 to 26.8 inches.

Why It’s Better

- Harness Built In: The webbing is sewn to the outside of the jacket, so one thing goes on and the lead clips straight to the D-rings.
- Reflective Straps: A silver dashed stripe down the chest and shoulder straps, on the outside where headlights actually reach it.
- Fleece Lined: Polar fleece against the dog under quilted padding, with a collar that stands up rather than lying flat.
- Water-Repellent Shell: Quilted polyester that beads rain and wet snow and rolls it off.
- Back Zip: A full-length back zip, so it opens flat and closes over the dog.
- Seven Sizes: Chest 13.4 to 26.8 in, in five colors.
Perfect for the dog walked in the dark at both ends of the day
From November both walks happen in the dark, and reflective strips only do anything if they are on the outside. A harness buried under a coat is invisible to a car and impossible to adjust. Putting the webbing on the outer surface solves both, and cutting the morning routine to one zip matters far more than it sounds at six degrees.
One zip, one buckle, out.

Questions

How do I choose a size?
Chest is the measurement that decides it. Measure the widest part of the chest behind the front legs, then the neck and the back from the base of the neck to the base of the tail. Chest runs 13.4 in at S through 26.8 in at 4XL, with back length 7.9 to 17.7 in. Allow 0.4 to 1.2 in of variation, so take the larger size between two.
Does it keep the rain off?
Yes. The outer shell is water-repellent, so rain and wet snow bead up and roll off instead of soaking in, and the fleece lining underneath stays dry against the dog. You come home with a dog you can towel off in ten seconds instead of one that needs a bath and an hour on the radiator.
Can I walk straight from the built-in harness?
Yes, and that is the point of it. Two metal D-rings sit on a webbing harness sewn through the jacket, so the pull goes into the webbing rather than the fabric. One thing goes on instead of a coat and then a harness over the top.
Does the harness adjust separately?
The straps adjust at the buckle, but the jacket and the harness are one garment, so the fit follows the size you choose. That is the trade for not having two things to put on.
How does it go on?
Unzip the back, lay it over the dog, put the two front legs through the openings, zip it up and clip the chest buckle. It does not go over the head.
How should I wash it?
We would suggest a cold hand wash and drying flat. A hot wash will pull the padding out of shape and repeated machine washing strips the water-repellent finish off the shell.
Why this rather than a coat and a harness?
One garment instead of two, with the harness webbing sewn through the jacket so the pull goes into the straps rather than the fabric. Water-repellent shell, polar fleece lining, full-length back zip.
