A light behind the blade so you can see the quick before you cut, instead of guessing in a dim hallway.

  • Clear nail guardSee the nail and the blade at once

Pale nails only. Light does not pass through a black nail, so it shows nothing there. Keep styptic powder in the drawer whatever clippers you use.

You Need A Third Hand For The Torch

Cutting a pale nail is a lighting problem, not a skill problem. The quick is visible if you can get light *through* the nail, and the light is never where the paw is, so you end up at a window, or holding a phone torch in a hand you do not have spare. The Luxia puts an LED behind the blade.

The light shines up through the nail as you line up the cut, so on a pale nail the quick shows as a darker shadow. A clear guard frames the nail, the blade is stainless steel, and three batteries come in the box. On dark nails the light does not pass through, so take small slices as usual.

Why It’s Better

Luxia LED Pet Nail Clippers, materials and construction detail

Luxia LED Pet Nail Clippers, how to unpack and set it up

  • Light Behind The Blade: The LED shines forward through the guard, so the light lands on the nail you are about to cut.
  • You See The Quick: On a pale nail the quick reads as a dark shadow through the lit nail, so you know exactly where to stop.
  • Clear Nail Guard: A transparent guard the nail passes through, so you see the nail and the blade.
  • Stainless Steel Blade: A crescent notch holds the nail instead of letting it slide along the edge.
  • Squeeze, Not Scissor: Curved handles you close with a whole hand, which is far steadier on a paw that wants to leave.
  • Batteries Included: Three LR44 cells in the box, so it works the moment it arrives.

Perfect for the person who hit the quick once and has avoided it since

It happens to everyone once, and afterwards the nail trim gets postponed until it becomes a groomer’s job. Most of the time the cause was not carelessness, it was that nobody can see a quick in a badly lit hallway. Getting light through the nail turns a guess into something you can actually look at.

Questions

Luxia LED Pet Nail Clippers, close-up of the main features

How does the light help?

An LED sits behind the blade and shines up through the nail, so the pink quick lights up as a dark shadow and you can see exactly where to stop. That one detail is the difference between a five-minute job and the trim you keep putting off.

Which nails does it work best on?

Pale and clear nails, where the light passes straight through and the quick shows up sharply. On very dark nails, take a little off at a time and stop when the cut face starts to look chalky in the middle.

What batteries does it take?

LR44 coin cells, and three come in the box. They are a common size and easy to replace. The clippers still cut with a dead battery, you just lose the light.

What size animal is it for?

The clippers are 5.24 in long and suited to cats, kittens, rabbits and small to medium dogs. A large dog with thick nails needs a heavier plier-type clipper.

Can I take the guard off?

The guard is there to frame the nail and stop you taking more than you meant to. We would leave it on. If it is in your way, that usually means the nail is too big for these clippers rather than that the guard is the problem.

How do I look after the blade?

Wipe it dry after use and keep it out of a damp cupboard. Steel blunts and spots if it is put away wet, and a blunt blade crushes a nail rather than cutting it.

Why this rather than ordinary clippers?

The light. Ordinary clippers leave you guessing, and one bad trim makes a dog fight it for a year. Here the quick shows through the nail as a dark shadow, so you cut with confidence.
