It Dies Halfway Through The Second Paw

Every cordless grooming tool does it eventually, and always at the worst moment: the animal is finally settled, and the motor slows to nothing. The Lucera puts an LCD display on the body, so you can see the charge before you start.

One paw-shaped button switches it on and shifts the speed, so there is nothing to learn with wet hands and an impatient dog. The grinding head lifts off, so you can fit the size that suits the nail rather than using one head on a kitten and a labrador alike.

Why It’s Better

Lucera LCD Pet Nail Polisher, how to unpack and set it up

  • LCD Battery Display: The charge shows on the body, so it never dies halfway through the second paw.
  • Heads Come Off: Fit the size that suits the nail rather than using one head on a kitten and a labrador.
  • One Paw Button: It switches on and shifts speed from the same button, usable with one hand.
  • Two Speeds: A slower pass for thin nails and a faster one for thick claws.
  • Cordless: Nothing trailing across the floor while you hold a paw.
  • Quiet Motor: Low enough not to startle an animal already unsure about it.

Perfect for more than one animal, or a big dog’s claws

A basic grinder is fine for one small dog every few weeks. The moment you are doing several animals, or a large dog whose claws are genuinely thick, two things start to matter: knowing the charge before you commit, and having a head that suits the job. This is the version of the tool for people who do it properly.

You can see the charge before you start.

Your Questions, Answered

Lucera LCD Pet Nail Polisher, close-up of the main features

How is this different from a basic grinder?

Two things. The LCD shows the charge on the body, so you know before you start whether you can get through all four paws, and the grinding head lifts off so you can fit the size that suits the nail. On one small dog neither matters much. On three animals, or one large dog with thick claws, both do.

Will it work on black nails?

Yes, and a grinder is the right tool for them. You cannot see the quick from outside a dark nail, so you work in small passes and watch the cut face: it changes from dry and flaky to a smoother, darker centre as you get close. Clippers give you no such warning.

How do I change the head?

Twist the collar off the top, lift the head out, drop the new one in and twist the collar back. It takes a few seconds and needs no tools, which is what makes it realistic to use different sizes on different animals.

How do I introduce it to a nervous animal?

Over about a week. Day one it exists and is switched off. Day two it runs in your hand across the room. Day three it runs while you hold a paw. Then one nail, then stop. Going faster is how most people undo their own progress.

Is it loud?

A low hum rather than a whine, and the two speeds help: start on the slower setting while an animal is getting used to it. Most of the fear of grooming tools is the sound arriving at the same moment as the sensation.

How do I look after it?

Take the collar off and tap the nail dust out after every session, then brush the head dry. Dust packing into the housing is the one thing that slows these down, and thirty seconds prevents it.

Why this rather than a basic grinder?

If you do one small dog occasionally, a basic grinder is the right buy and cheaper. If you do several animals, or one big dog whose claws are thick, the battery readout and the changeable heads are what stop nail day being a job you keep putting off.
