How long does it run on a charge?

What does it do to the air?
It puts moisture back into it. Dry indoor air is what leaves you with a scratchy throat, a blocked nose and dry skin every winter, and a fine cool mist right beside your pillow or your keyboard is the fastest way to fix the small patch of air you are actually breathing.
How big a space does it suit?

I have a cat. Can I use essential oils in it?
Run it on plain water and you get the full effect with nothing to worry about, which is what we would do in a home with a cat or a bird. Many essential oils are toxic to them, so check with your vet before diffusing anything at all.
What water should I use?
Filtered or previously boiled water if you have it. Hard tap water leaves a white mineral dust on nearby surfaces and furs up the plate faster, so softer water keeps it running cleanly for much longer.
How do I clean it?
Empty it after use and wipe the ceramic plate with a cotton bud every week or two. Two minutes, and it is the single thing that decides whether one of these lasts a season or several years.
Why this rather than a mains humidifier?
