How do I choose a size?
Measure the chest at the widest point on the ribcage and the back from the withers to the base of the tail. Chest runs 11.8 in at S through 19.7 in at XXL, back length 7.9 to 15.7 in. Reference weights run of about 2 to 3 lb at S up to 11 to 15 lb at XXL, allows 0.4 to 0.8 in of variation, and says to follow the chest measurement where chest and back length disagree. Size up between two.
Is a lead included?
No. This is the garment only. It has two D-rings on the chest belt, so use the lead you already have.
Will it hold my dog securely?
Yes. The lead clips to metal D-rings mounted on a proper chest panel, so the load spreads across the chest rather than pulling on the neck. It is at its best on small dogs and cats on everyday walks; if your dog leans into the lead, take the next size up for a wider band.
What is the difference between the dress and the vest?
Only the back. The dress has a gathered denim ruffle skirt; the vest has no skirt and a small patch pocket instead. The body, the straps, the belt and the D-rings are identical, and so is the sizing.
Is it warm enough for winter?
No. Unlined denim is a spring and summer layer. In cold weather put a padded coat over it or choose a coat instead.
How should I wash it?
We would suggest a cold hand wash and drying flat. Denim is heavy when wet and a hot wash will shrink it, which matters more on a garment sized to the inch.
